Training on Precision Agriculture and Digital Technologies Strengthens Technical Capacity in Cambodia

The SmartAgriCambodia: Advancing Sustainable Agriculture in Battambang project conducted a training on Precision Agriculture and Digital Technologies for Modern Agriculture, strengthening the knowledge and practical capacity of agricultural extension officers and technical stakeholders to apply modern technologies in agricultural production. The training was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Milan Kroulík from the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU) in cooperation with the Building Action for Integration and Development Engagement (BAIDE). Strengthening Knowledge of Precision Agriculture A total of 25 participants, including nine women, took part in the training. Participants represented the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (PDAFF), Tasey Samaky Agricultural Cooperative (AC), and Drone Neak Meas Co., Ltd. The training covered key technologies and applications supporting data-driven and precision-based agricultural management, including: GNSS, RTK, DGPS, and guidance systems for accurate positioning and field operations Soil and crop sensing, including NDVI and soil electrical conductivity (EC) mapping Yield mapping and spatial data analysis for understanding field variability Variable Rate Technology (VRT) and prescription (Rx) maps for targeted application of agricultural inputs Farm data management, IoT, and digital agricultural systems Agricultural robotics, autonomous field vehicles, and AI-based spot spraying The training highlighted how data collected from agricultural fields can be transformed into practical information to support more accurate decision-making and efficient farm management. From Digital Data to Practical Agricultural Solutions Through the training, participants strengthened their understanding of how precision agriculture technologies can be integrated into agricultural production, from accurate positioning and field sensing to spatial data analysis and targeted application of inputs. The knowledge and practical skills developed through the training can support agricultural extension services, agricultural cooperatives, and technical service providers in promoting the appropriate use of digital and smart technologies among farmers. The activity contributes to the broader objectives of the SmartAgriCambodia project by strengthening local technical capacity, promoting data-driven agriculture, and supporting the adoption of technologies that can contribute to more efficient, targeted, and sustainable agricultural production in Cambodia.
