SmartAgriCambodia Welcomes EU Delegation for Project Visit in Battambang

On 9 September 2026, the SmartAgriCambodia: Advancing Sustainable Agriculture in Battambang project welcomed a delegation of 15 representatives of the European Union in Cambodia, led by Mr. Bryan Fornari, together with four representatives of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), for a project visit in Battambang. The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to learn about the project's activities and observe how Czech agricultural technologies, expertise, and know-how are being transferred into practical applications in Cambodian agriculture. Demonstrating Digital Technologies for Precision Agriculture At the National University of Battambang (NUBB), the delegation participated in discussions with project partners and observed a practical demonstration of digital mapping for precision agriculture. The demonstration presented the process from field data collection to the development and use of digital maps to support more informed agricultural decision-making and more efficient use of agricultural inputs. The activity highlighted the role of digital technologies in strengthening data-driven approaches to agricultural production and technical services. The delegation also had the opportunity to experience the HECTOR unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), a robotic platform developed by Czech company ProLab Engineering. The demonstration showcased the potential applications of Czech robotics and smart technologies in agricultural operations and field-based activities. Strengthening Local Capacity for Agricultural Technology The programme also included a visit to the Battambang Institute of Technology (BIT), where the delegation visited the newly established workshop and project service center. The facility is being developed to strengthen local technical capacity for the operation, maintenance, servicing, and practical application of modern agricultural machinery and technologies. It also provides a platform for technical training, demonstrations, and knowledge transfer to students, technicians, agricultural stakeholders, and farmers. Connecting Czech Innovation with Cambodian Agriculture The project visit demonstrated that SmartAgriCambodia goes beyond the introduction of new technologies. A central component of the project is the transfer of knowledge and technical skills, enabling Cambodian institutions and agricultural stakeholders to understand, operate, maintain, and apply modern technologies in local conditions. Through cooperation among Czech and Cambodian universities, technical institutions, agricultural cooperatives, the private sector, and farmers, the project supports the development of practical solutions and local capacities that can contribute to the sustainable transformation and modernisation of agriculture in Battambang. The visit by the EU and CDC delegations provided an opportunity to highlight these ongoing efforts and the importance of international cooperation, technology transfer, and capacity building in supporting sustainable agricultural development in Cambodia.
