From 27–28 and 31 August, and 1–2 September 2026, the SmartAgriCambodia Project conducted a five-day practical training programme on Digital Mapping, Data Analysis, and Translating Digital Outputs into Practical Recommendations for Agricultural Practices and Service Delivery at the National University of Battambang (NUBB). The training was delivered by Ing. Václav Novák, Ph.D., from the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU), and coordinated by the Building Action for Integration and Development Engagement (BAIDE) in cooperation with NUBB. The programme brought together agronomy officers from the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (PDAFF) and technical staff from Drone Neak Meas, providing participants with an opportunity to strengthen their technical capacity in the application of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and digital technologies for precision agriculture. From UAV Data to Practical Agricultural Decisions The training focused on how UAV technology and digital mapping can be used to collect, process, and interpret agricultural information and subsequently translate digital outputs into practical recommendations for farmers and agricultural service providers. Key areas covered during the training included: UAV operation and agricultural applications; Digital mapping and collection of aerial agricultural data; Processing, analysis, and interpretation of digital agricultural information; Application of digital outputs to support improved agricultural practices; and Translation of data and digital maps into practical recommendations for farmers and agricultural service delivery. The programme combined theoretical instruction with hands-on exercises, allowing participants to work directly with UAV technology and digital agricultural data. Through practical activities, participants developed experience in the workflow from data collection and digital mapping to data analysis and the development of actionable recommendations. Strengthening Local Capacity in Precision Agriculture The training contributes to the development of local technical capacity to apply digital agriculture technologies under Cambodian farming conditions. Participants can use the knowledge and skills gained to support agricultural monitoring, field assessment, technical services, and future digital mapping activities. Strengthening this capacity is also important for connecting modern agricultural technologies with practical needs in the field. By transforming UAV-generated data into understandable information and actionable recommendations, digital tools can become more useful for farmers, agricultural cooperatives, extension officers, and other agricultural stakeholders. The activity represents another step in the SmartAgriCambodia Project's efforts to promote precision agriculture, strengthen digital agricultural services, and support the adoption of data-driven farming practices in Battambang Province and Cambodia.
